Writing a recount

We are learning to write a recount. Room 4 went on a field trip to the Botanical Gardens last week. We wrote about where we went, what we did, who we went with and when we went. After we wrote our stories, we published them. We used Kidpix to make a picture which matches our story. It is tricky remembering everything to put in our story sometimes. We are proud of our publishing.
I love smelling the roses and I like the Africa House and I like the Africa Garden and we listened to the teacher in the Botanical Gardens house. By Darrell.

Making pizza

Yummy! We made pizzas to celebrate the end of our inquiry on wellbeing. We were learning about compost and how we can use it in our garden to grow some healthy vegetables. We then used these vegetables to add flavour to our pizzas.

Telling the time

We are learning to tell the time. We made watches today. It was fun. First we wrote the missing numbers onto the watch. Then we decorated the watches. Next we drew on a little hand and big hand. We chose our favourite time of day. Mrs Bovill recorded us reading our watches.

It is tricky to draw the little hand. I am proud that I did it all by myself.

Recognising blends

I am learning to look for blends. When I see a blend in my story I sound it out. It is tricky because it has two letters. I am proud of learning my blends. I like the word thank. The blend is 'th'.

Ordering numbers 1-20

I am learning about teen numbers. I have to put the numbers in order. I am proud that I can win and put them in the order. I am proud I can move the body into order. It can be a bit hard to move them up sometimes into the caterpillar.

Kandinsky flowers

Room 4’s masterpieces are inspired by Kandinsky’s painting ‘Squares with Concentric Circles’. We really loved how Kandinsky experimented with the use of colour. Our paintings are our own experiments with colour and inspired by Kandinsky’s painting above. First, we had to choose our favourite primary colour to paint our background with. We then blended two primary colours at the top and bottom of the page to create a secondary colour and an interesting background for our own circles. If we used a warm background, we needed to try and use cooler colours for our circles. We really like our paintings because viewers can decide whether our circles are flowers in a field, balloons in the sky or lollipops in a shop!! We love using our imagination.

Describing words

I am learning to use describing words to make my story exciting. I am so proud that I can use describing words and that I am trying my best. I am proud that my story makes sense. It can be tricky to sound out describing words. The next steps for me might be to read my story again and add more describing words. I could look at pictures for ideas of describing words and read more poems and books.

"Beautiful is my favourite describing word in my story."
